Holidays

On the first week of the holidays Mali and Nova stayed at my house Friday after school until Thursday afternoon. We made a huge fort in my lounge and slept in it for a few nights, then we went into my room and slept there for the rest of the week.

On Friday after the girls left, My brother and his girlfriend had their baby boy at 4:42am he weighed 8.1 pounds and he has been named Ruben. My Mum went up to the hospital with her during labour and came back home at 7am.

The same day family from Hamilton came down and stayed in Otaki with our grandparents, we had dinner then left at 11pm. The next day family from America and Australia came down for a family reunion along with other Family and friends from Otaki. I stayed at my grandparents with all my cousins and we stayed up till 4am fighting and mucking around.

The next week I stayed home with my brother and his girlfriend and was helping out while they looked after the baby. During that week my Family and I all went to see the new Lion King movie, It was really good.

On Sunday we chilled at home and watched movies, school was the next day and I wasn't excited.

Matariki

Matariki is the Maori name for a cluster of stars in the night sky. In 2019 from the 25th of June to 28th, the cluster of stars will appear in the dawn sky. The stars signal to the start of the Maori new year.

Matariki is a cluster of stars. There is 9 stars that shine the most and those are the 9 sisters.
Matariki: Gathering of people and Whanau. Reflection and the environment.
Pohutukawa: People who have passed on.
Waiti: Fresh water, and food that lives in it, wai- water
Waita: sea water, and food that lives in it, wai-water
Waipuna-a-rangi: Precipitation, water in the sky. rain falling from the scared sky.
Tupuanuku: Food growing on papatunuku.
Tupuarangi: food growing in the ngahere, up in the trees.
Ururangi: wind
Hiwa-i-te-Rangi: whishing, dreaming star. Hopes and aspirations
Each star holds a certain significance over our wellbeing and environment, as seen from the Māori view of the world.

I think Matariki is a special time because it is a 1 time a year thing and it indicates a new year.
